The Digital Signage Summit Europe (DSS Europe) is one of the key digital signage events in Europe each year, co-organized by the fantastic teams of the ISE and invidis. In other words, it is the place for industry leaders. This year, we had the opportunity to sit down with Bastiaan Amsing, the GSA Treasurer and one of our board members, who attended the event as a speaker, alongside William Sam from Samsung. Continue reading and discover what valuable insights Bastiaan shared with us from DSS Europe 2024.
Interview with Bastiaan Amsing, Treasurer of the GSA:
Bastiaan Amsing is a seasoned expert in digital signage, with over a decade of experience in the industry. As the CEO of ScreenCom and MagicInfo Services, he has been at the forefront of technological innovations in the industry. Bastiaan is also a founding member and Treasurer of the Global Signage Alliance (GSA), as such he plays a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s strategic direction and fostering community growth.

Bastiaan’s involvement in GSA underscores his commitment to driving innovation and knowledge sharing within the digital signage community. At DSS Europe 2024, Amsing was a key speaker, discussing how VXT can play a role in data-driven digital signage projects like smart cities. His presentation highlighted the practical applications of these technologies, reinforcing his status as a visionary leader in the digital signage industry. Now, let’s find out more about Bastiaan’s experience at the conference:
Q: “What were some of the key takeaways from DSS Europe this year that you believe will shape the future of digital signage?”
A: For me it was the first time at this event. The quality of discussions and the market insights you get are tremendous. Almost every key player in the European digital signage market was at the conference. There are mostly suppliers and software vendors, which gives a completely different perspective and vibe compared to that of ISE (Integrated Systems Europe) for example.
Q: “During your presentation at DSS Europe, how did the audience respond to the topics you covered, particularly about VXT?”
A: For context, we [ScreenCom] have been working with Samsung Electronics exclusively since 2014, and in that period we were only selling MagicINFO software in many different countries in the EMEA region.
Unlike its predecessor, Samsung’s VXT has a holistic approach and a greater ease of use compared to MagicINFO. While the new CMS is still in its infancy, the PIRS programme offers the opportunity to make the product better rounded.
VXT is a very hot topic in the digital signage world at the moment. As such, experts’ opinions are divided. For example, software vendors perceive the newest CMS as a threat mainly because it appears as if the tech giant is going directly to market.
Q: “We heard that you’re working closely with Samsung Electronics on their new CMS, VXT, what are your thoughts about the platform?”
A: We [ScreenCom] have been working closely with Samsung on their newest CMS, VXT, from day one. I strongly believe in system-on-chip (SoC) technology and in having one vendor for all your digital signage needs. That would allow cutting post to pillar behavior. As mentioned previously, VXT has great potential. However, due to its early development stage, I think that VXT still needs further fine tuning before it’s ready for bigger rollouts.
Q: “Related to the previous question, how do you think Samsung’s VXT will change the market in the upcoming years?”
A: Like Jason Cremings from Signagelive said; “It is either disruptive or destructive. The future has to prove it. There is certainly a lot changing in our industry. We need pioneers like Samsung to take the lead.”
Q: “What advice would you give to digital signage professionals and companies planning to attend future editions of DSS Europe?”
A: It is a high quality event which will give you insights that are really up to par! Just go there!
Q: “Bastiaan, how has participating in DSS Europe impacted the Global Signage Alliance and its members?”
A: There were a lot of GSA members also attending this event, as visitors or even as speakers. In the evening, at the bar we spend some good reflections about what our industry is all about. Next to serious stuff, it is also important to enjoy a good beer and a laugh right?
