Dear GSA members,
Over the past months, one trend has become clear. Digital signage is no longer an add-on. It is becoming part of core business infrastructure.
What started as screens and content is evolving into intelligent, data-driven communication systems. These systems are now embedded in operations, customer journeys, and enterprise platforms. This is a structural shift that is redefining the role of digital signage.
What Is Changing in Digital Signage
Artificial intelligence is no longer experimental. It is becoming central to digital signage networks. We now see real-time content adaptation, automated decision-making, and predictive management. Signage networks are no longer static. They are becoming self-optimising systems. Organisations that treat AI as a core layer, not an add-on, will move faster.
New Revenue Models
The economic model is also changing. Retail media networks are expanding across global markets. Digital signage is no longer only for communication. It is becoming a revenue-generating platform. Screens are monetisable assets connected to data platforms and digital ecosystems. This changes how companies invest in and measure signage.
Sustainability Becomes Measurable
Sustainability is moving from ambition to action. Energy use, hardware lifecycle, and compliance now influence purchasing decisions. The industry has an opportunity to lead with solutions that balance performance and efficiency.
Interoperability Is Critical
As networks grow, closed systems create limits. Scalable digital signage requires open architectures, integrations, and collaboration between vendors. Without this, the ecosystem remains fragmented.
The Role of GSA
The Global Signage Alliance supports a more connected and structured industry.
Our focus includes:
- Interoperability frameworks for scalable ecosystems
- Practical and responsible use of AI in digital signage
- Development of sustainability benchmarks
- Connecting stakeholders across the value chain
Our goal is to ensure innovation happens in a coordinated way.
Looking Forward
Digital signage is converging with enterprise IT, IoT, and data platforms. The key question is no longer if digital signage matters. It is whether organisations are building isolated tools or integrated infrastructure that can scale and create long-term value.
A Personal Reflection
In conversations with members and partners, there is strong momentum across the industry. At the same time, fragmentation remains in technology, standards, and collaboration. This is where GSA plays a role. We bring structure, alignment, and progress where it matters.
Digital signage is no longer about what we display. It is about what we enable. If we get this right, our industry will not only grow. It will become part of the digital foundation of modern organisations.
Warm regards,
Mark Ossel
Chairman, Global Signage Alliance
